The 2017 - 18 Play/Write program is working with 300 students in five New Orleans schools:
- The International School of Louisiana (4217 Orleans Ave.)
- Success Preparatory Academy (2011 Bienville St.)
- St. Mary's Academy (6905 Chef Menteur Hwy.)
- Warren Easton High School (3019 Canal St.)
- Young Audience Charter School (1407 Virgil St.)
The students spend the fall learning the fundamentals of playwriting, writing group plays and staging them with costumes, and playing theatre and improv games. Students also see a production of Goat in the Road's My Best Friend Is An Alien.
In January, students decide on which play they wanted to turn into their final, full length play and the heavy duty playwriting began!
The 2017 Showcase took place on Monday, May 15, 2017 at Dillard University's Cook Theatre. 10 students plays were presented by five local theatre and dance companies.
Stay tuned for this year's Showcase info (May 2018)!
